Eligibility

Age: 18 (may register at 17 if turning 18 by election day)

ID Requirements

To Register: IN driver's license number (BMV-issued) or last 4 of SSN. Online registration requires a valid IN DL or state ID. If neither, must provide a current photo ID or a document with name and address (utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government document). DL/SSN is matched against state records.

To Vote: Strict photo ID required (government-issued). Note: University-issued student IDs are no longer accepted as voter ID per SB 10 (2025); this law is currently under federal litigation.

Registration Methods

  • Online: Residents can submit a voter registration application electronically through the state's website, rather than by mail or in person.
  • Mail: Residents can register to vote by completing a paper registration form and submitting it by mail to the appropriate election office.
  • In Person: Residents can register to vote by visiting a designated government office, such as a county clerk's office or DMV, and completing a registration form on site.

Early Voting

Early voting begins 28 days before election day at county election offices.

Mail-In / Absentee Voting

Absentee ballot available; excuse required.

Felony Voting Rules

Rights restored automatically upon release from incarceration.
