Eligibility

ID Requirements

To Register: Proof of identity required (not just an ID number): driver's license, government-issued photo ID, passport, or naturalization papers. Under HB 1569 (effective Nov 2024), all first-time registrants must provide hard-copy documentary proof of U.S. citizenship: U.S. passport, birth certificate, or naturalization papers. Proof of domicile also required. Affidavits no longer accepted. Law currently under legal challenge.

To Vote: Photo ID required. Voters without ID must retrieve it before voting; the challenged voter affidavit option was eliminated by HB 1569.

Registration Methods

  • Online: This state does not offer online voter registration. Residents must register by mail or in person.
  • Mail: Residents can register to vote by completing a paper registration form and submitting it by mail to the appropriate election office.
  • In Person: Residents can register to vote by visiting a designated government office, such as a county clerk's office or DMV, and completing a registration form on site.

Early Voting

New Hampshire does not offer early voting.

Mail-In / Absentee Voting

Absentee ballot available; excuse required.

Felony Voting Rules

No disenfranchisement for felony conviction. People in prison may not vote, but rights are not formally revoked and are available immediately upon release.
