Eligibility

Age: 18 (may register at 17 years and 10 months)

ID Requirements

To Register: TX driver's license or state ID number, or last 4 of SSN. If neither, can still register but must show ID when voting. Free Election Identification Certificate (EIC) available from the DPS. No online voter registration. Secretary of State cross-references DPS citizenship data with voter rolls.

To Vote: Photo ID required (7 approved forms)

Registration Methods

  • Online: This state does not offer online voter registration. Residents must register by mail or in person.
  • Mail: Residents can register to vote by completing a paper registration form and submitting it by mail to the appropriate election office.
  • In Person: Residents can register to vote by visiting a designated government office, such as a county clerk's office or DMV, and completing a registration form on site.

Early Voting

Early voting runs from 17 to 4 days before election day.

Mail-In / Absentee Voting

Absentee ballot available; excuse required (age 65+, disability, absence from county, or confinement).

Felony Voting Rules

Rights restored upon completion of sentence, including prison, parole, and probation.

Documentation Needed

  • One of 7 approved photo IDs
  • Supporting ID form if photo ID unavailable

Additional Notes

Texas does not offer online voter registration.
